I am trying to fix a friends laptop. It is a Compaq nc6000. There is no XP or HP disc for it.
The computer gets to the XP start screen then goes to the BSOD with the Unmountable error.
I am unable to boot in safe mode and i have tried all the different available bios settings. I also tried the recovery Console but get the same BSOD.
I also tried using my XP OEM disc to try a disc repair but the option was not there.
I uninstalled the Hard Drive and put it in an external case to try and back up the data but my system did not see the drive once I plugged it in.
Any suggestions? ideas?
could it be a bad Hard Drive even though the boot makes it to the XP screen? Or is it more likely it is a corrupt file system and if I can make it to a disk check I might be ok?
Is there any (ultimate boot disc etc) boot disks than can help?
