Default Undelete files

I had a friend who had a ton of spyware and I am going to reinstall windows for them. I told them to backup all of their importand data before i do the reinstall. They made the bright move to move files to CD versus copying them. The system was unstable and crashed while they were moving the files. Now the files are no longer on their HD or on the disk they were burning. I searched in all hidden and system temp files to try to find the files and cannot. I have run two differnet undelete programs and cannot find the files. I told them that there was a 5% chance of retrieving the files. Are they screwed or is there any chance at recovering the files.

Thanks for the help.
Hefe

BTW they are running xp home sp2

I tried a couple of free recovery programs and found all of their deleted data and could recover it just not the moved files that appear to be in limbo. I told them about data recovery companies and the cost and they were not into the cost. They lost one month of pictures.

That info can be recovered you just need software that is better. The free stuff doesnt always recover it all.

Pandora File Recovery - Find and recover deleted files of any type - free.

That might be of help.
