Unable to play videos on internet browsers. Help?

Hi All,
I've recently been having problems playing videos on browsers. I am able to play videos on youtube, but not on any other websites (NBA etc.). I've checked my adobe flash and everything is up to date. I've uninstalled and reinstalled with my firewall and antivirus off. Any ideas? Thanks.

Did you install the browser add-on? Being Chrome or Firefox.

And are these all flash videos? Could be in another format.

i'm not sure whether they're flash or not. I have all the add-ons for chrome and they are enabled. One thing though, when i try to update my Java i get an error message "uncompression of download file failed". Could Java be the problem also, im trying to watch videos from these two sites.
