okay, trying to install windows on a new computer, but whenever it does all the setup stuff before it begins installing windows components, the software crashes. like the hard drive doesnt want windows or something.

HELP!

have you tried another xp disc?

I've tried three XP discs AND a windows 98 disc, just to try and get an OS up on it. =/

how do you have your hdd setup? how do you have the jumpers set? Reset the ram also

this happened to me before when i was building a brand new desktop
most likely your jumpers aren't in the right place
and could be that the cd rom drive is messed up and not reading the disc properly

cd rom is fine because we got a linux live cd to work--i'll examine jumpers after doing a little bit of net research on the mobo. my roomie put it together and everything was good until windows decided to be so cruel.

so linux works, but windows 98 and xp wont work?

have you tried another OS? windows 2000, or xp professional?

does it give you a error message?

maybe wipe the drive clean 1st and then try again.

so this is a dual boot pc....how did you go about setting this up?

I've wiped the hard drive to the nth time. not dual boot. just wiped the drive and tried linux.
