Trouble installing instant messenger

I tried googling this problem, but nothing useful came up.

I'm trying to reinstall yahoo instant messenger after a system recovery, but whenever I double-click the .exe file to install it, I get the following message: "Could not load the DLL library C:\WINDOWS\KERNEL32.DLL. Invalid access to memory location." There's also always a second message saying it can't find something in the "temp" folder, but each time that something is different.

I'm sure the kernel32.dll file is fine, but I have no idea what to do.

delete the .exe, then delete your temp files, then re-download, see if that helps.

Well i hope that he kernel32.dll file is fine. That is what runs the OS. Can you install any other software? Or does everything you try to install give you this error?
