transfering ipod songs to new PC

Hi I have an ipod that I need to hook up to a new Windows 7 machine but I don't have the original PC. So the Library is only being stored in the ipod.

I know that in the iTunes program, when you sync up your ipod to it, it re-writes the ipod to whatever is in iTunes....and if there is nothing in there I'm worried it will just re-write all the music on my ipod and erase everything.

How do keep it from doing that? How can put the songs from the ipod into itunes instead of whatever is in itunes(nothing) being written into the ipod?

I've avoided installing itunes until I know how to safely hook my ipod.
