I was wondering if anyone out here follows a specific sequence when putting together the rest of the computer.

I have installed XP Pro. What next and in what order?

Here is what I still need to do and I thought about this order:
[what do ya think of this order?]

Install anti virus first or after the XP Pro updates?
Download and install all the XP Pro updates since SP2.
Install pci video card and drivers
Install Firewire pci card and drivers
Install the Hauppauge TV Tuner card + drivers
Install MS Office
Install all other programs [such as yahoo messenger, video cam and driver, all the Blue Tooth stuff, then all the other goodies.

Do you guys have a special sequence when putting together a new system?

Hello,

I would install device drivers first (the latest drivers), install security software (such as antivirus), perform a Windows Update, then install other programs afterwards.

Alvin,

Peter said pretty much the same exact order!

Thanks for the good advice and I will definitely do it!

I would do as Alvin said.

Device Drivers, Anti-Virus, firewall then Windows updates.

That way you have yoru drivers to be able to connect to the net and such. then the protection stuff so you can be protected and updated that way. Then Windows Updates to have the OS up to date. Then the other stuff that is your personal preference.

Installing anything else in any order could potentially put you at risk.
