The main reason to fix or clean a registry problem is that with installing and uninstalling all sorts of apps will clutter the registry. Over time this will tend to hamper your system as it trys to access the registry. Since it will be so cluttered with older unused registry keys. Clening it will remove the unused, inactive, incorrect, or error registry keys and allow for better acces to the registry.

Soemtimes if a application gives you an error during an install and nothing you have done will allow you to install it a simple Registry clean might do it. Also sometimes when you remove an older version of a product and then try to install a newer version it will detect the older registry keys. That might not allow for the application to install. This also happens when a program is not removed correctly from the system. If you have even had to reinstall Office after a bad uninstall you will understand.

I hope that gives you a good idea on why you should clean your registry.

but can a novice clean a registry without causing any system problems.

how do i know for example that something in the registry can be removed or not?
