When my disc was empty, I allocated 10% of it to System Restore. Now I want to recover that space. I tried disabling System Restore and rebooting, but the _RESTORE folder still shows it using 4 GB, 10% of my disc. I also slid the slider down to 4% and then running disc cleanup, still no change.

What would happen if I delete that folder? Is there any other way to recover the space? Thanks.

reenable restore, run system restore and tell it to remove restore points. then disable it. it should of removed the points during the disable, dont know why it didn't

I tried all those things and that folder just won't shrink, it stays at 4 GB.

go to disk cleanup, go to the more option

and pick the delete all but the most recent restore point

TweakXP had the answer!

Sorry, it all just depended on how I formulated the Google search. The answer was in this ( http://www.tweakxp.com/article139674.aspx ), the #3 hit for "System Restore" space.

I am always afraid to delete any kind of system file or folder on Windows, but I actually got away with it for once! I did turn System Restore back in after reducing the space to 2% or so.
