Exclamation System files dissapeared

Nothing has changed on my computer for the last couple of weeks, I got on it today and if I goto START->RUN the following commands do not work:

cmd
regedit
regedit32

Also none of the mmc snap-ins work

There is no error message, a black dosbox pops up real fast then dissapears.

AMD Duron 1.2 GH
Windows XP Pro SP2
RAM 512MB

can anyone help me?

yeh that would be because of spyware putting .com files in the same directory and anythin typed without the extension (.exe) will search the file in alphabetical order so it goes to .com file first not .exe and the .com has nothing in it thats why. just go into system32 and delete the cmd.com, regedit.com and regedit32.com files and you should be fine.. or if you are not comfortable deleting stuff in your system dir then type the full name in run (regedit.EXE etc)

Got any virus scaners? Spyware Scanners?

Also if you have your XP disc you can try a repair, it should replace those files, unless theres another reason. however some viruses are known to disable those specific ones.
