Default svchost.exe

This svchost.exe error keeps coming up on my windows xp screen. It says svchost.exe has encountered an internal error and needs to close. then it give me the option of sending on error report which i've done twenty times in five minutes. What's wrong?

Try using your XP disc to repair the corrupt file.

SVCHOST.EXE deals with loading and unloading .dll files and is a pretty important file.

If all else fails, format your drive and reinstall.

go to regedit from the "run" command and tell svchost.exe not to run at startup

You need SVCHOST man, do not disable it. Do what catbert said, just run a repair installation of Windows. It will reinstall SVCHOST. Regedit is not the way to do it anyway, it's through MSCONFIG.

You need this file to sustain normal operation

Personally I would put my fix disk *cough XP DISK* in the computer and do a fresh reinstall, but a repair also will work
