Default Startup Questions

I'm trying to speed-up my XP start up. I've eliminated plenty of nonessential programs. I don't want a lot of processes running in the background. Can someone tell me If I can eliminate any of the following:

BCMSMMSG.exe What is this?
Any Synaptics pointing device?
Any Spam Killer from McAfee.

Thanks for your help.

this site is awesome for figuring out what processes do what, if you have any more questions about what you can kill and what you cant:

What Process? Process Library - Identify & Manage Windows Processes

and most processes that are important... if you kill em, theyll just turn themselves back on anyways... good luck - RK
