Looking at the programs that run when I startup, using msconfig, I was curious as to whether CTFMON is needed or even what it is.

The command line is c:\windows\system32\ctfmon.exe

Any clue?

I mean delete what ever is starting ctfmon because you dont need it running, unless you want to use memory for no reason.

Okay, I searched for any files with ctfmon in it and all I got back were:

1 - c:\windows\system32
2 - c:\Servicepackfiles\i386
3 - c:\windowsSoftwareDistribution\Download\9ded(bunch of letters and numbers)

I would think these are files I need to keep...Any suggestions?

OK, i'm not telling you to delete the actual file, i'm telling you to delete the refrence to CTFMON in startup, does that make sense?

note that deleting the startup refrence will actually prevent the program from starting, if you could imagine that.

I unchecked it and it sounded like my computer was going to take off like a flippin plane! I don't know which fan it came from but something sounded like it was going to lift off of my desktop lol. Anybody have a clue?
