Startup Error message?

I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask so apologies in advance if not.

This problem has only started recently and occurs after every startup.

I get a blue bordered windows error message box appear and states:


Windows cannot find 'C:Windows\system32\3049\ms-upd\msupdt.exe'

There is also a black box appear and at the top it has (in a blue border) C:\Windows\system32\cmd.exe
and within the black box states

C:\Documents and Settings\
my name >start C:\Windows\system32\3049\ms-upd\msupdt.exe

and a curser flashing underneath it.



Any ideas please?

Scan for virus's, you might have a virus. And do spyware scan.

seems like that's the file it uses to for windows update.

have you tried to update windows?
and ofcourse...spyware/virus, etc scan if you havn't....

I dont think C:\Windows\system32\3049\ms-upd\msupdt.exe is where msupdt.exe is supposed to be. Sounds like something is disguising itself as the Windows updater file and tring to run on startup.

Check your msconfig for that path and uncheck it.
