Default Startup

Where do you go in XP to turn programs that startup off, cause i have like 20 and its drivng me nuts.

under run, type msconfig.exe, select startup and disable any program from loading at startup
My gaming machine:

P4 2.8 GHz
2 X 512 MHz PC3200 in dual DDR mode
integrated 6.1 MAX audio

Be careful using it though... some programs are absolutely essential to the operation of Windows. You can go here ( and search their exhaustive database in order to determine which startup programs are essential, which are useful, which are junk, and which are malicious.

ok thanks. had around 25 things that didnt need to be loading all starting up at once

I've always wondered why certain things find their way into startup. Quicktime is a perfect example of this, why does it need to start up when the computer does? Why can't it just start up when the user wants to use it?

ok go to msconfig
then on the startup (the one befor last) click hide all windows things or w/e, then disable the rest. then in the last tab, just disable all of them

spybots teatimer work well for preventing items being injected into your startup.
