Spammer sent me email using my own domain name?

HOw can this be? I just got spam from it@mycompany.com. How can they use my domain name? Is there a way to prevent this?

Hello,

It's called email spoofing. Basically, the email is altered so that it appears as though it was sent from a specific address (which in your case, a mailbox of your own domain name).
