sound issues

i just formatted my pc, (used to have xp home, now have xp pro) and since then my right speaker has been very, very quiet, and my left one really loud. ive messed about with the options in control panel but it hasnt sorted it out. anyone got a solution please?

this may sound like a stupid question but is the cord in the back of the right speaker in all of the way

even if it was that shouldnt make the left one all loud and now the most dumbest obvious question, is the balance set in the middle? if so just check all connections, make sure u have the current driver for ur soundcard and i would just reinstall it to make sure it isnt corrupted neways as it only takes like 5 mins to do. is it an onboard soundcard? if that doesnt help reply back and we'll think of some more stuff to try

well now the sound is ok, coming out of the speakers. but the singing voice is still 'warped'. its very quiet and sounds synthesised. but i cant find the option to mess around with it.
