some backup tips?

my previous installation of windows crashed and cannot be booted up, now i'm in a new installation on another hard drive and trying to back up the files from my previous installation(which is in another hard drive hooked to this same pc) most of the files is just matter of drag and drop and for some, like those that require an "export" such as mails(outlook or thunderbird etc) or favorites in the browser(firefox in this case)i'm hitting a dead end, anyone had some tip for backing up those files? thanks in advanced.

Have you tried copying the corresponding folders in Application Data?
