You'll need a dvd writer.

If you want to copy a movie from a DVD to the hard drive, you dont need a DVD burner. If you want to copy a movie from your hard drive to a DVD+/-R disk then you have to have a DVD burner.

If you want to make a backup of a DVD that you own, you can use DVD Decrypter and DVD shrink. Decrypter will decrypt the DVD, and then store it on your hard drive. DVD shrink will allow compress the files and allow you to burn them to a DVD burner with a DVD burner.

Actually you can do it all at once with DVD Shrink. It is a awsome little program and I have copied many of my DVD's that are scratched and are good as new.
