Yes and no. Some sound cards have a higher output level than others. While onboard sound has the lowest sound output a sound card will have more output. While some cards will have more than others it is more directly affected by your speakers than you card. If you only use a 2 speaker setup then go to a sound systme that has 5.1 with a 200 W subwoofer you will notice a difference. No matter what card you use.
