that runs when i start my computer. can someone tell me what it is

SMC is a make of wireless card...dont know about the s on the end of it....

i'm running xp and it is smcs
i've ran norton av and it doesn't come up with anything
i'm running spybot s&d right now. is that a decent program?

yeah spybot is good, im running NAV and still i go to http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp everyone once in a while, it always find a couple of virusus that slip through NAV, but yeah ive bin usen spybot for a while, its a good free prog.

Cant find nothing on it either.
Try searching your registry for smcs. It may give you a clue to what program it belongs to.

Was there anymore results apart from that one in your registry?
Search for smcs in registry and press F3 to search for the next instance of smcs.
The one in your pic is just one that tells me youve previously tried searching your comp (not your registry) for "smcs" and will autocomplete when you try to search your comp again.

I just said ***Software/Microsoft/Search Assistant/ACMru/*** is the history log for the searches on your comp when using the search utiity on XP. So this wont count.
Need to find another result somewhere else in your registry

i rebooted my computer and it ran again. i did a ctrl print screen while it popped up and it says something about http://iroffer.org
does anyone know how to delete it?

u have the path to it in ur first post so unless its a hidden sys file or something u should b able to delete it unless its running and then ur gonna have to end it first thru task manager. i would just stop it from starting at boot thru msconfig or deleting the key(assuming that its starting from the registry) in the registry that makes it start at boot. most likely its located here-HKEY_Local_Machine\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\ CurrentVersion\Run
