A friend of mine installed Freeserve on his Dell Laptop running XP Pro and now, when I go to manually set-up an internet connection the first two options are greyed out and can't be selected:

Connect using a dial-up modem
Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password

I don't know if the Freeserve install caused the issue -I tried uninstalling it and there's no un-install feature (great!). I'm thinking it's probably the registry but don't where to look.

If the freeserve you are talking about is an UK ISP, this should help. Next time would you please explain more? I had no idea what you were talking about untill I found it via the almighty google :)

Whoops - forgot the net was global. D'oh! I'll give it a go tonight.

Thanks.

I uninstalled Freeserve (a UK ISP) but still have the problem:

when I go to manually set-up an internet connection the first two options are greyed out and can't be selected:

Connect using a dial-up modem
Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password

Have just reinstalled XP and STILL have the problem.
