Default server transfer files

I have a laptop and a desktop. All my important files (over a tera) are on my desktop. I want to access them from the laptop, if im not at home. I want to be able to just pick up internet on my laptop, and pull over the ones i want over the internet. Is there a way to do this?

Install a FTP server on your computer and use No-IP - Dynamic DNS, Static DNS for Your Dynamic IP to access it with a domain name. That's what I normaly use when I want to get a file from my computer at home.
