Default Server OS

I will be receiving my new computer parts soon and i wish to turn my old system into a server for files and some games.

What would be my best choice for OS? i have Windows XP Pro and Windows Server 2003.

What would be best for just storing files and hosting decicated server at lans?

Keep in mind that windows server 2003 has a significantly smaller list of compatable hardware than 2000/xp should you decide to go with it. You shouldn't have difficulty finding stuff for it, but it's not so simple as to assume most of what's out there will work fine if you pop it into the server.
