Default Server Operating System

If I was going to set up a server, what would be the best OS to use. Would I use Linux, Novell Netware, or Windows Server 2003?What are the advantages and disadvantages to each operating system.

of all of the availble options onw a days, I see that Linux is the most diverse and has the ability to do the most with the least cost involved. There can be trouble if you are going into unknown water, but for the most part it is the best.
Windows offers a lot, but comes at a cost.
Novell, I didn't know they were still in existance...

depends on what server... is it for sql, mail server, or just for user account/ security type, access control (AD for w2k server or w2k3), citrix, etc...

id agree on many of them, but actually, if your trained with it, AD is better as far as administration of employees rights and permissions, user accounts, domain administration, etc. of course, thats just preference for me
