Hello

can you guys tell me what a ROM mnitor is?
i tried to do a wiki on it but came up with nothing

ROM is Read Only Memory. Basically the CMOS is considered ROM. Since the CMOS does change the BIOS does.

So basically a ROM Monitor is something that monitors the functions of the Read Only Memory. It is like a CPU Meter telling you how many Cycles your CPU are doing at any given time. Like the Task Manager.

i thought the ROM monitor checks to see if the ROM has not gone corrupt during the boot strap procedure

Okay after a little research you are correct. But there are some ROM Monitors that i have seen, a long time ago mind you, that used to watch the CMOs and let you know when the battery life was getting short. The batteries used back when PC's first came out didnt last as long as they do now. So we had to keep a eye on them to make sure we didnt lose our BIOS settings.

oh ho, so they used to check on the battery too, makes sense

thanks for the confirmation and the info
