Now that I have created my image discs (including a sys restore disc), does this mean that reinstalling windows is now negated and replaced by this method instead? To restore all I do is stick in the system restore disc, let it boot from there and then select the right option for an image restore? Also, will I need to activate windows again (bearing in mind I activated it before taking the image).

Many thanks.

how did you make the image discs? If you used a manufacter's application to create the recovery discs, then these can be used to install a fresh copy of the OS with drivers & apps that is identical to the day you bought it.

I'm thinking that activation will be required because I don't think they created snapshot of the machine. Rather, created a custom windows install cd.

edit - a system that is imaged after being activated will need to be reactivated if certain hardware changes.
