Reinstalling Win 200 pro

I have Win 200 pro as my OS on my laptop. I tried to upgrade to service pack 4 as had a virus slowing everything down and thought this would help.

It has not completely installed and missing vital files like autocheck.exe so i am unable to do anything. I can F8 and F2 but do not get to the Ctrl ALT Del logon stage

should i install the OS again over the top of the current?

Or, is there anything else that can be done, anything other than throwing it out the window (i am getting that way!)

Try booting to your win2000 CD and choosing the installation repair option (I don't exactly remember the keystrokes, its been too long since I've reformatted).

Also, if you get a virus, make sure you clean it up before installing anything new. Just updating some software (other than your anti-virus program) won't help fix it.
