If you want Windows XP to automatically log in, you have to only have one account and that account can't have a password. So delete all accounts except the one you want. Then if you have a password on that account go to Control Panel and choose 'User Accounts'. Go to your account in that window and click 'Remove my password'. You will have to type your current password to remove it.

If it still doesn't work, you need to make sure your Welcome Screen is available. Go to Control Panel -> 'User Accounts' and click 'Change the way users log on or off'. Then check the box next to 'Use the Welcome screen for fast and easy logon'.
