reformat vista?

My friend recently bought an hp computer (desktop) from best buy. It came with a load of crap and trial software that is unnecessary. Whats the best way to get rid of it? Reformatting? and if so how would I do it?

To reformat it just insert the vista installation disc, enter bios setup, go to boot sequence change it from hard drive to cd/dvd. save and exit then it will restart ur desktop and say "press any key to enter setup ....." press any key n follow onscreen instructions. althought alot of computers have the vista installation is on the hard drive now

Or do by add/remove programs or remove them manually from the c:/
