Default Recurring Registry Problem

I think there is something wrong with my registry. When I download registry mechanic, it says some core files are missing. When I run Ashampoo WinOptimizer, it is able to find orphaned registry files but not delete it. Plus, when i try to install a game (Roller Coaster tycoon) I am not able to complete the installation as the error message reads "Could not set up registry entries."

Help? Perhaps any way to "refresh" or "repair" my registry on XP?

I think doing a Windows Repair install would fix a problem like that, though I'm not totally sure since I haven't experienced an issue like that before.

Does anyone else know for sure if the windows repair install rebuilds the registry?

According to Microsoft's website there is a way to replace specific key's that should clean out any problems that you might be having. Just be careful though when fixing the registry because you could potentially corrupt the operating system all together....not that I've done that before...;-)
