a virus of some sort might have corrupted one of my drives and my computer would only start up on safe mode.
i didn't want to deal with the virus on that drive so i bought a new hard drive and installed XP on it. I intended to connect the infected drive as a slave and copy important data to the new drive.
But as soon as I connect the old HD as a slave windows won't start.
The error reads as:
windows could not start
<windows root>\system\hal.dll
But if I disconnect the old HD windows starts up.
I'm just not sure what software would be most adequate to address this problem. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
