Re-Installing Win 2000

My "other" computer is a Dell Latitude. Has a 6G hard drive and runs win 2000. it now takes six minutes from press the button to being able to open Outlook. Cannot get it so a scan disc. De fragment says I have 980M left. Can't imagine what all is on this box. Have run Adaware, spybot, Norton 2005. NO surprises. Have Belarc and cannot find any non-intended installations. How do I do a "clean Install" so that there is nothing on the hard drive but the os and then what I add? I think the last person to do a reinstall "left' the old stuff there and maybe the computer is confused as to what o boot form? Anyway, I am about to be over my head with this one. OK, and thanks for the quick reply! Now, help out a real noob here. Does the computer completely erase the old installation or just use a different part of the disc? I just can't help but think they left a bunch of crap her I need to clean up. I can't even get this machine to do SCANDISC just sits there. Philip
