Re-install ME

I've got the three yr-old emachine and would like to re-install ME that came with it, in order to clean out the junk that has accumulated. I understand that I've got to backup everything I want to save, but what do I do with the three yrs' worth of ME and Norton updates ?

Can I copy those folders and re-install those too?

Or should I just go on the web and download three yrs worth of those updates? I've got slooow dial up connect and would take another three yrs to download them.

I was in search and never really found any posts that addressed my questions specifically.

Downloading them shouldn't be that bad. The norton updates won't be more then 2-5 MB. I recently reinstalled XP on one of my computers using a 1 yr old XP disc and there were only about 10 MB of essential updates. I would just reinstall.
