I am going to format my c: and re-install winXPproSP1.

If I move my data to other partitions other than my C:, will that data be accessible once windows is installed?

(Is formatting my HD and re-installing windows going to remove the "index" that my computer uses to access files on partitions other than my c:?)

I know this might be a stupid question, but I dont know and would like the answer to it.

please help.

thanx for your input.

absolutely. If the partitions are set, then there is no way that windows can write over it (unless you tell it to that is..). Just move your data over to the partition that you want to keep, and tell windows to erase the partition that your OS is on. Good Luck..

I just did something similar to this for a friend.
My friend had this setup:
c:/ (windows
d:/ (media)
e:/ (games)

I moved all his files to d: and e:, formatted c: and reinstalled Windows.
It worked fine.
When you install xp make sure you format the right partition.

i didn't really want so spend forever sending data back and forth accross the network when I could just drag and drop from my d: and e: drives back to c:.

thanx again.

mine is

1.C dual boot (1 xp sp1, 1 is MCE 2005) 2 20 gig

2. D. My backup files 50 gig

3. L. My documents 100 gig

4.M. My movie drive 100 gig

I too have a smiliar setup as mentioned and it is very efficient.

C: Windows (120GB)
D: Applications (120GB)
E: Storage (300GB)

I only got like only 76GB left! out of all them :(
