Hi, I'm just wondering what are .RAR files exactly? Is it some sort of .Zip file? When I open .RAR files, it's always in a notepad format and when it's opened, it has these messed up symbols and stuff. I don't think .RAR files are supposed to be notepad form..but I don't really know what this is so help? Thanks.

another compression utility. right click on thr rar file, click open with, the choose winrar, you might need to select the program from another list then choose always use the program

WinRar is another program that compresses yoru data and it's compressed files are in the .RAR form. IMO RAR owns ZIP.

I agree, WinRar is superior to Winzip. The problem is that it's simply not as universal.

rar is replacing zip as compresion of choice, because you can do more things with it like compression a big file into small chunks so that you can send it in an easier method

winzip is just starting to implement this method with zip files

win rar can extract cabinet and iso file too.
