i don't really know if this is the right forum to ask this, but i think it probably is.

i'm just wondering: what is a "bin" folder for? i see "bin" folders with a lot of programs and i'd like to know what they do.

the bin folder is usually found in database based programs,, it is the folder that contains the command and reference files for the database to abide by,,, it usually contains executables, dlls, and power tools for the app,,

I hope that kinda helps...

cheers,,

on a linux system bin is there the binary files are kept...
sbin is where system binarys are kept.
binarys being executable files.'
you will find several bin folders /bin /sbin /usr/bin on a typical linux system
