If you're running Windows XP without Service Pack 2, whenever you try and run any of the programs (besides the command line ones) from the PuTTY suite they will give you an error message; something like

configuration options are not correct

To solve this problem copy the text from putty.mft
into a file called application that won't work.exe.manifest. and save that file in the same directory as the application. Alternatively, you can roll back to version 0.57, which doesn't have this problem. (Alternatively, you can install SP2, but the cure will probably be worse than the disease.)

The bug and fixes all come from the PuTTY site; the page is http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/putty/wishlist/xp-wont-run.html.

Moderators - I know I posted a thread about this before. That was stating the problem. this is a fix and I wanted to give it a more informative title for the benefit of future users. If this is not allowed, just remove the post and inform me; I promise I won't do it again.
