Programs taking forever to open...

what causes this? when i double click a program icon, the hourglass appears for a second then goes away. the computer doesn't seem to be working at all. then like 5 minutes later the program opens. once open it works fine and at normal speed. i was used to this when i was using my 6 year old underpowered dell system, but this is extremely frustrating on my very new high powered machine...

any ideas?

This might help a little.

Go to start, run, type msconfig and go to the startup tab, click disable all, but leave your antivirus on and reboot

Have you deleted all your temp internet files and your cache lately? It might be your system is bogged down from all the stuff on there. Try running CC Cleaner and see if that helps any.

Defragment your hard drive as well
