Default programs not recognizing directx 9c

i recently installed directx 9c and when i went to play half-life it wanted me to install directx 6! when i reinstalled the game it told me i already had an updated version
what can i do?

Eeks... well you didn't need to install the latest version to play half-life... why did you update it???

If my memory is right, the MS website specifically states you cannot undo an installation of DirectX 9.0c... If you're running XP... why don't you try system restore to go back to a previous point before you installed the latest version.

i did go back down to 8.1 by installing it but that didnt work
my music still plays though....

Playing music files or audio CD has nothing to do with DirectX. If i have time later, i'll see if i can find a link on how to undo an installation of 9.0c

Cloud, stick to one board. Don't make duplicate threads on multiple boards.

Check to make sure dx9 is backwards compatible. I know some versions of dx weren't.
