Hey,

I am having major problems updating software on my computer. This is regarding automatic software updates for poker programs, firefox, etc.

Either at the end of the update (with the poker program) or the middle (firefox), the update fails.

Sportsbook poker fails at each update or reinstallation detailing that it is missing a CAB file.

Firefox does not give me a descript answer other than it has missing files (I am guessing maybe another CAB file).

Any suggesitons? I was considering a Windows repair or a System restore. Is there any major risk of losing data files by doing a Windows XP System restore?

Thanks for the help.

what cab file, and what file is it trying to extract from it or does it say in the details during installation? You can still manually extract single dll files from the .cab if it's a system file you know exactly where it goes. also, did you check eventvwr to see if maybe there is an err on crash pop'n up? could be a corrupt inst or anything ,really, especially if it's showing in two separate programs.

I uninstalled/reinstalled firefox and now it seems to be updating smoothly.

As for sportsbook poker, it is the ULTIMATE horrible software. (The bad .cab file was associated with the poker program --sbkpoker.cab). Horrible GUI, crashes often, and all of its users are not a fan of it at all. So maybe it was a bad installation. I deleted all of the temporary, registry and all other files associated with the program and it still wouldn't reinstall correctly. I copied from one desktop to another the program file folder and now it works on the original PC.

I don't want to bother with a repair right now for the sake of re-downloading all windows updates.

Was all of this a coincidence? I don't know. Maybe time will tell.
Thanks for the response.
