Problem with restarting my computer.

I just built a computer, windows installs perfectly. Yet when I am required to start my PC to finish the installation files of windows updates, the computer freezes at windows XP logo screen. My motherboard drivers install fine after rebooting the PC. It just when I try to reboot for the updates from microsoft the computer freezes.

umm why would I want to boot in safe mode? I can boot from last known good configuration, but I am guessing that it does not complete the installation of the windows updates. I was told by a friend that I needed to update the bios?

Its a fairly well known motherboard, so i do not think its the motherboard..... I have no Idea, heh all I know is I can install everything perfectly but when it comes to updating microsoft windows xp it does not allow me to reboot properly after installation of the updates.
