Problem with AMD 64 3200 with XP SP2

Recently I built myself a new computer, installed xp pro and started getting my updates including the service packs. After Installing all the updates, I realized that my processor usage was permenantely at 40+% at best and usually around 60-70% when the computer was idle. I tried formatting and reinstalling and then i noticed that the usage percentage only got bogged up once i installed service pack 2. Is there any known incompatabilities with AMD 64 and XP Pro? I just don't understand why the processor is working overtime like that.

well, xp pro is 32 bit and your processor is 64 bit.. So expect some problems.. your better bet is to get the 64 bit version of windows and see if your problem goes away

I have a lot of things running in the background (theme packs, widgets desktrop search and so on) with my amd 3500. My cpu usage at idle is low.
