Preinstalled software question

There wasn't any CD in the box. I opened it and it was in the HDD preinstalled. It did have a prepartitioned drive labeled "recovery", which I do not what it contains. Its a single file labeled recovery about 18GB in size.

You should have an option to burn your own Recovery DVD's.

if you have the recovery DVD with your Laptop, can use to re install software drivers

You've to make recovery DVD from the HDD backup

You will not lose any of your data. In fact all the old data will placed in a folder called old.windows.

That's only if you do an in-place install without formatting. That only saves the data though; not all programs can be ran from there (especially if they rely on registry settings).
