power settings doesnt work

i am using windows xp professinal, there in my power profile settings i use to keep my monitor turn off option as one minute .
This option works some times properly , but some times my monitor doesnt turns off after one minute, why does this happen.?

Is there any other way to solve this problem.

This could happen due to more than one reason ... Basically u might have some application which is preventing the monitor from going into standby ...

For example ... Certain screensavers, system utilities ..like disk management tools etc..

So u'll either hafta post a log of the things ur running or try killing all other unwanted processes n' then check if the monitor goes into standby properly
