i'd suggest shareaza,..much cleaner. no spyware. even detects whether a particular file is spam.

Pop-Up Stopper Pro is great.

Some pop-ups don't need a program. A routing protocol caled ICMP allows routers to send messages to administrators about problems the router is having. Some companies use these to send ads to users across a network.

I use Pop Up Stopper Pro too :) It's awesome. I also did have to turn off the Messenger service to stop the popups and it works greatly too. So glad I ditched AOL cause I think they were the cause of it. I also do use Ad-Aware, Kazaa Lite etc. Wow a lot of us here seem to use the same stuff LOL.

If you're running XP take the advice that CrashAbbott gave about disabling messenger. Go to start > run > type: services.msc from here look for "messenger" right click > properties then set to "disable" and you should have few problems with adds popping up while not running an internet based program.

well Free Surfer is a strong popup killer and its ABSOLUTELY FREE, no annoying banners saying "register now" and its really easy to configure. You can easily stop its own splash screen coming up on startup just by going into the options. it even comes with a washboard that gets rid of a whole lot of internet cookies and cache from your hard drive. if you dont know where to download it go to http://www.webattack.com/dlnow/rdir.dll?id=104532 (posted above as well)

not bad for an ABSOLUTELY FREE piece of software

If you do like Kazaa then DO use KaZaa lite:
