So I booted up my PC a few days ago and up came this message

PLEASE SELECT OPERATING SYSTEM TO START

1. MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION (BOOTSCREEN)
2. MICROSOFT WINDOWS XP HOME EDITION

USE THE UP AND DOWN ARROWS TO HIGHLIGHT YOUR CHOICE.

PRESS ENTER TO CHOOSE

FOR TROUBLESHOOTING PRESS F8

Funny thing is I only have installed one Operating system so I am puzzled?

I looked around for a solution but nothing was found

any ideas on how to change this to make it go away?

Thanks

well, Im not sure which file, but the boot.ini Which you SHOULD NEVER screw around with unless u know exactly what your doing, I think in that file it lists the operating systems you can boot off of, find which one if yours and then delete the other. HOWEVER, wait for someone elses input because I have never done this and Im not sure if it will work. So DO NOT DO IT yet..

Find your boot.ini file. Remove the second line about the second OS.

If you don't know how to do this, Google it. Or post the contents here and we'll sort you out. Don't do anything if you don't know what you're doing.

Good, I was Kinda right. So he would not delete the one that says boot screen, correct?

Start > Run

then type msconfig

click the third tab from the right "BOOT.INI"

then click check all boot paths, it should tell you if one doesn't work, say ok to remove it...

If that ever happens again I think there is also an automatic rebuild feature hidden in there somewhere.
