I have a compaq Armada 7400. I tried to load a copy of XP on it. It got all the way through, but when I restarted this error came up on the screen, and it will not disappear."Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
<Windows root>\system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.

I tried to make several boot disks, but to no avail. What am I missing here. I thought I knew, but I'm totally stomped!!!!!!!

Well did you try re installing XP?? What appears to be your problem is that hal.dll is missing. If it happens again it might be a problem with your CD.

Also next time try to make the subject more discriptive of your problem. That way more people will read it and possibly help you.

I dont suppose you know what the HAL is... Do you? It stands for Hardware Abstraction Layer. That is f****d, and you will most likely need to reformat and install XP from scratch. That would be your best, and easiest, bet.
