ping request could not find the host...

Could any one there... gimme the exact reason for why this error would pop if I say ping www.yahoo.com or the ip address for that matter in winxp.
And also whts the FIX to it... can anyone also pls tell me why does the tcpip not add from the nettcpip.inf when you try it from network properties....it says there was no information about your hardware in the file.

1. are you even connected to the internet? are you dial-up or broadband? are you behind a router?

2. what's your NIC card? are you sure you hve the right drivers loaded for it?

Does it actually matter whether its Dialup,DSL or cable... its just a result of the ping command.... Well still if you need it.. its Win Xp and i'm using a Dialup... no Routers... no NIC's... no Firewalls...

umm, also check if XP's firewall is on (sorry don't know how to check it, don't have XP) and if the modem's drivers are loaded. that's all i can help. anyone else?
