Performance Issues

I know i dont have the best specs out there, but this is getting ridiculous. My procesor, an AMD Duron 1.6, is working near 100% all of the time, even when i am not doing anything. It is just too slow for what it should be. Its not a virus or spyware or memory or startup programs [ already checked and fixed ], so what could it be.

Any help would be apreciated, i just cant figure it out. Maybe there is something wrong in the registry... [ if it is i havent found it yet ]

Also im pretty sure it has to do with Windows or related, because i have used linux boot cd's and i have no performance issues there...

well if you checked and fixed all of those then it would ahve to be something running in the background. Something that windows task manager wont show you which means it is in the registy. Good luck going through that.

You have a VIRUS. Press ctrl alt del (task manager - go in processes) you will find that some part of windows is infected and using 100% of your processor.

For staters, what do you use to check for virus and spyware? Not all are created equal.
Second, what programs do you have installed? The full list please.
have you run hijackthis? if so, post the log.

Download Procesxp from http://www.sysinternals.com
use that to track the program that is running out of control.

Well I use a combanation of Avast and Clam Antivirus for virus, not at the same time though, I just use Avast actively.

spyware-I use spybot S&D, Ad aware, and Xspyshield Gold [ i checked that one out no spyware in it and very good at finding and removing things ] and Microsoft Antispyware

your problem is that you have too many program and not enough ram.

how many programs have you left in startup (msconfig)?

I don't know much about hijack this, but isn't this the stuff running in the background?

Something close to 30 programs in startup, most of them are system proceses [ last time i tried to end some of those my pc automaticaly turned off ] I just start up with the basics.

I dont think its the ram, its always at something like 50 - 70 %useage, unless i play a game or use photoshop.
I do admit i need more ram but for this problem i dont think thats it.

in the startup list i have like 2 programs i start up with.... [ the rest start up with the system ]
